What this website and our games do with your information, in plain terms.

1. Who we are

Brass Moth Ltd ("Brass Moth", "we", "us") is an independent games studio. We are the data controller for this website and for the games we publish.

You can reach us at the address in section 8.

2. This website

2.1 The support and deletion forms

When you send us a message we receive the name, email address, subject and message you typed, or — on the deletion form — the player name and email address you gave us. We use them to answer you, or to find and delete the right account.

To stop the same message arriving dozens of times we store a one-way hash of each submission for seven days. The hash cannot be turned back into your message.

2.2 hCaptcha

Our forms are protected by hCaptcha, which checks that a submission comes from a person rather than a script. hCaptcha receives your IP address and information about your browser. It is operated by Intuition Machines, Inc.

2.3 Web3Forms

Messages are delivered to us through Web3Forms, which processes them in order to pass them on to us as email.

2.4 Server logs

Our server records each request, including the IP address it came from, the time, the page requested and the browser identification string. We use these to keep the site running and to investigate abuse. They are deleted after 30 days.

2.5 Stored on your device

Two preferences are kept in your browser's local storage: whether you chose the light or the dark theme, and whether sound is switched off. They never leave your device and we cannot read them. The theme choice is also written to a cookie so the correct theme is rendered before the page appears.

There is no advertising on this site, no analytics, and no third-party tracking cookie.

2.6 Staff sign-in

Our own staff sign in to a content management area to edit this site. That uses a session cookie which is strictly necessary for signing in, and is not used to track anyone.

3. Junkyard Empire

Junkyard Empire signs you in through Google Play Games Services and holds the data needed to run your account and your game.

3.1 What the game holds

  • Your player identifier and display name, as provided by Google Play Games Services.
  • Your game progress and inventory.
  • Virtual currency balances and your purchases.
  • Achievements and leaderboard data.
  • Gameplay activity needed to run the game and keep it synchronised across your devices.
  • Limited technical, security and crash-diagnostic information, used to keep the game working and to protect accounts.

3.2 A note on the player identifier

The identifier Google Play Games Services gives us does not contain your name or your email address. It is, however, unique to you and stays the same over time, so it can be used to single you out. We therefore treat it as personal data and give it the same protection as anything else in this notice.

3.3 Why we hold it

To provide the game you asked for, to keep your progress safe and synchronised, to operate purchases and leaderboards, and to protect accounts against fraud and abuse.

4. How long we keep things

What How long
Server and application logs 30 days
Support and deletion messages Until the matter is resolved, then deleted
Submission hashes (repeat protection) 7 days
Junkyard Empire account data Until you delete your account
Purchase and transaction records Six years from the end of the financial year they relate to, as UK tax law requires

5. Deleting your data

You can delete your Junkyard Empire account and its data at any time — from inside the game, under Settings → Delete Account, or by asking us on the account deletion page. We complete verified requests within 28 days.

6. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable form. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

To exercise any of these, write to us at the address in section 8. We will respond within one calendar month.

7. Changes to this notice

When we change this notice we update the date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects how we handle your data we will say so in the game as well.
